Tyra Banks is a successful American model and entrepreneur. She grew up in Los Angels, California. Although her parents split up when she was young, the familial relationship stayed cordial. She began modeling at the age of sixteen and soon traveled to Paris, France for an amazing 25 runway shows. She has done both print and runway work for such fashion houses as Chanel, Badgley Mischka, Annba Sui, and Christian Dior. She has been seen in such magazines as Elle, Vogue, and CosmopolitN, and was the first black woman to appear on the cover of GQ, and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. In 1997, she became the first black model to appear in the Victoria’s Secret catalog. She appeared every year until 2005, when she retired from modeling.

Once Tyra retired from modeling, she turned her attention to TV and music. She started her own production company, which produced The Tyra Banks Show, and America’s Next Top Model. The Tyra Banks Show, which was a daytime talk show, premiered on September 12, 2005 and aired its last new episode in May 2010. America’s Next Top Model premiered in May 2003 and has aired fourteen cycles on The CW network. Tyra has also appeared in several music videos for such artists as Micheal Jackson, George Micheal, and Tina Turner. She has also recorded her own music. In 2004, she recorded a single called “Shake Ya Body” but did not have much success with this effort. Later, she also recorded a single with Kobe Bryant and a single for the Disney Channel movie “Life Size”. She also starred in the Disney Channel movie as a lifesized doll.

America’s Next Top Model has already been picked up for cycels fifteen and sixteen to air on the CW network and Tyra resigned with IMG Models in 2010.
